Idul Adha 1427

Based on its criteria to use astronomical calculations for determining the dates of Islamic Lunar Calendar consistently throughout the year, the Fiqh Council of North America has decided that Eidul Adha in North America this year will be on:

 Sunday, December 31, 2006 (Dhul Hijjah 10, 1427).

For the month of Dhul Hijjah the Astronomical New Moon (conjunction) will occur on Wednesday December 20, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. GMT (i.e., 9:00 a.m. EST, and 6:00 a.m. PST ). On Thursday, December 21, 2006, the new crescent will be sightable in Australia, South East Asia, Middle East, Africa, and Americas. Thus the first day of Dhul Hijjah will be Friday, December 22, 2006.

Shura Council  Meeting with Local & Federal Agencies to ease Hajj travel

... In an ongoing effort to ease Hajj travel, Shura Council met with Larry Fetters, LAX Security Director of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and also with the Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) and via video link with the Office for Civil Rights & Civil Liberties of DHS in Washington DC, to discuss travel concerns. Earlier, Shura Council also met with the Customs & Border Protection and the FBI in Los Angeles.

Pertinent documentation is provided by the Shura Council to local and federal agencies to enhance understanding about the Hajj travel. We are assured that their respective staff will be apprised about the issues revolving Hajj travel.

The TSA Security Director apprised of their gender-specific policy related to secondary searches and assured of its implementation at all times. The TSA also briefed about their recently instituted 3-1-1 program. To record any unpleasant experience please contact TSA's round-the-clock Command Center at 310-242-2939. We highly recommend to also use the Airport Incident Form made available by Shura Council.  This will help us to help you.

Should your friends or family members experience any delay returning from Hajj through to LAX Airport, please call Shura Council immediately at 714-239-6473. We have established contacts with all agencies involved at LAX and we will do our very best to redress the concerns immediately.
